World Milk Day 2017 is now over! Here are some of the events that took place in celebration of the day.

    * Providing a year's supply of milk (approx 300 litres) for 10 winners from the public * Providing a year's supply of milk (approx 300) for 10 winning schools to donate to a charity of their choice * Providing a year's supply of milk (approx 300) for 10 winning staff members to donate to a charity of their choice Competition asks staff, schools and public to submit photos of them, friends and family 'raising a glass' to milk to a dedicated page on Fonterra.com and share on social media using #worldmilkday. Entries go into a draw and ten schools, members of the public and staff members will be drawn as winners.

    This part of the event contains socialization and talkshow held on by Cattle Buffalo Club Animal Husbandry Faculty Padjadjaran University . The socializations were done at 2 kindergartens in Bandung, namely TK Elektrina and TK Taruna Bakti on May 12th and 17th. The purpose of this activity is to educate the kids about the importance of drinking milk. Socialization also will be done at Car Free Day in Bandung on May, 21st, 2017 and at Universitas Padjadjaran's Campus on May 22nd, 2017. The purpose of this activity is to inform the general public about the annual event Hari Susu Nusantara and World Milk Day. The talkshow will be held on May, 24th, 2016 also in Bandung. The purpose of this activity is to educate the general public and dairy farmers about milk production and dairy cow managements.

    The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in close cooperation with International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) and Ministry of Education (MoE) celebrated 1st June as the World Milk Day (WMD) at five regions including Mazar, Heart, Kunduz, Nangarhar, Kandahar and Kabul. FAO has promoted 1st June as the World Milk Day to recognize the importance of milk as global food. This was initiated in June 2001 and has since become an annual event in many countries throughout the world. In 2015, more than 50 countries around the world celebrated World Milk Day and the number of participating countries is growing each year. The activities included holding marathons and family runs, milking demonstrations and farm visits, school-based activities, concerts, conferences and seminars, competitions and a range of events focusing on promoting the value of milk and illustrating the important role played the dairy industry in the national economy. The Day provides an opportunity to focus attention on milk and to publicize activities connected with milk and the milk industry. The fact that many countries choose to do this on the same day lends additional importance to individual national celebrations and shows that milk is a global food. FAO (was asked to propose a specific day on which all aspects of milk could be celebrated. The objective of world milk day celebration is to increase the public awareness about the importance of milk and milk products, and dairy industry development in Afghanistan.

    Dans le cadre de la 17e édition de la Journée Mondiale du Lait, la Cité du Lait LACTOPOLE®, à Laval (53), ouvre gratuitement ses portes le mercredi 31 mai et le jeudi 1er juin de 10h à 18h. Au programme : Ces portes ouvertes vous permettront : - de vous informer sur le travail de la ferme laitière et d’effectuer un parcours thématique autour du lait de consommation, - de participer à des ateliers « traite de la vache » en partenariat avec le CNIEL, ainsi que des ateliers recyclage. Des ateliers dessins seront aussi disponibles pour les plus petits, - de déguster du lait (nature et aromatisé)… D’autres animations seront également proposées pour faire découvrir les caractéristiques des laits de consommation.

Au programme : la laiterie CORALIS présentera l’intégralité du parcours du lait, « de la vache au verre de lait », le public aura l’opportunité de s’informer sur le travail à la ferme laitière, d’effectuer un parcours de visite de la laiterie incluant les ateliers beurre et crème, des collaborateurs de la Laiterie CORALIS et des éleveurs laitiers accueilleront les visiteurs.
